“A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.” ~Marian Garretty
While it may be a coincidence that National Friendship Day and National Sisters Day are celebrated on the same day, it is completely appropriate. Many of us have sisters who have been our lifelong best friends – and conversely, many of our very best friends are even closer to our hearts than blood relatives. These titles can be interchangeable, and on August 6, we have the opportunity to celebrate all of these special relationships. National Friendship Day was established by Congress in 1935, and since that time nations the world over have joined the celebration. Although the holiday never reached the level of other special observances, it is recognized by many as the perfect opportunity to thank sisters and friends for all they have contributed to our lives. In fact, studies have shown that people who have experienced close relationships with their sisters are happier, more charitable, and more optimistic than those who did not have sisters. And those who grew up with at least one close friend have a healthier view of themselves, of interpersonal relationships, and of societal structures in general!
Yellow roses are considered the traditional s of friendship, and you may decide to send a bouquet of these meaningful beauties. But you may also choose to send a floral design featuring your friend’s favorite s, or celebrating their favorite color. It really doesn’t matter, as it is conveying the sentiment of love and gratitude that is most important. For beautiful ideas, browse our rose collection or summer s collection online.
