This week we take a look at some of our most popular indoor plants and give you a few tips on keeping them healthy and thriving.
Be Ready with Your Gifts: Easter is April 16, and Administrative Professionals Week begins April 23rd. Both are right around the corner! Have you ordered your floral arrangements or plants from Tobler’s Flowers yet?
With elegant s reminiscent of butterfly wings, the phalaenopsis orchid is one of the most coveted indoor plants. Although they may appear to be exquisite and rare, they are surprisingly easy to care for and will bring beauty to your indoor environment for months. Simply situate the orchid in a moderately bright area with diffused light, and water one every 7-10 days (when the soil begins to dry out). Ask our experts about the best orchid fertilizer for your plant and how often it should be fed.
Signs of Trouble: If your orchid begins to manifest spots on its leaves and petals, it is likely being overwatered and the roots are rotting. Repot with fresh soil and lengthen times between watering.
The bromeliad adds a bit of exotic flair to your space, and like the orchid is well adapted to thriving with little care. Because of their tropical nature, bromeliads do well in humidity – if you do not have a naturally humid space, place the bromeliads pot on a saucer or tray filled with pebbles, and add water to just below the level of the rocks. The bromeliad has a unique hydration system – there is a small “cup” formation at the base of the , which in the wild collects rainwater. Simply fill with fresh distilled water or rainwater once a week for best results. And remember – your bromeliad loves the sun!
