In post-World War II America, businesses were thriving and in need of more people to join the workforce. At that time, secretaries were normally male, but more were needed. National Secretaries Day was launched as a recruitment tool of sorts, to encourage women to train for a career as a secretary, and the rest is history. Throughout the decades, many things have changed - for instance, the job title "secretary" has largely been replaced by "administrative professional", which is a more encompassing job title. Also, administrative employees are now primarily female, with men only representing 5% of the administrative workforce. Read More about Send Flowers for Administrative Professionals Week »

Daisies have a reputation of being a simple . The humble bloom that was used in a childhood game of "he loves me, he loves me not" is actually a complex that is part of an extensive family, grows on 6 continents, and can even be placed on your dinner menu. This month we celebrate the diverse daisy, the April birth and quintessential of springtime.
All in the Family: There are over 23,000 varieties of daisy, and although you may expect it to be related to the sun, you may be surprised to hear that the daisy is also related to the artichoke and many kinds of lettuce. And like those members of its family, the daisy is completely edible. Read More about Bright Gerbera Daisies for April Bouquets »

National Puppy Day is a grassroots movement that seeks to educate pet owners on several fronts. The organizers want to bring attention to the overpopulation problem in the United States as well as to the need to spay or neuter your pet - but the main purpose for the day is to encourage adoption from shelters. 3.9 million dogs enter shelters each year, and unfortunately 1.4 million are subsequently euthanized. Only 35% of dogs who are in shelters will find a forever home. And although puppies born in shelters certainly have a much higher rate of adoption, founder Colleen Paige wanted to encourage prospective pet parents to visit shelters when ready for a new family member.
