Rosh Hashanah, literally translated to “the head of the year”, is considered the Jewish New Year. This high holy day on the Jewish calendar is marked by both deeply spiritual elements, and dignified celebration with family and friends. Rosh Hashanah s are a popular way to decorate for the traditional meal, and can also reflect the historical and religious significance of the festival. For the most beautiful Rosh Hashanah s and centerpieces, turn to Tobler’s Flowers.
Rosh Hashanah is a time of personal reflection and corporate prayer in the synagogue. Prayers from the mahzor are specific to the holiday, and the shofar is blown to signal a time for repentance of sins. Rosh Hashanah takes place on the first two days of the month Tishrei, and it is believed that on these days God created the world. Blue s, thought to represent the presence of the divine, are often used to honor the holiness of the occasion.
After asking for forgiveness, prayers are offered that one would have a fresh start and do better in the coming months. White s signify purity and innocence, as well as a new beginning – perfect to represent the clean slate given at this time of year.

Because the traditional meal includes challah bread, apple slice dipped in honey, and pomegranates, many choose a centerpiece that exhibits the warm fall colors of the harvest. These floral designs can complement the meal by adding wheat, fruit, and berries to the arrangement. As the meal begins with the lighting of two candles, we can add those as well. Simply call Tobler’s Flowers and tell us what you need. To all of our Kansas City friends and neighbors celebrating Rosh Hashanah, we say L’Shanah Tovah – a good new year!
